Dream It, Be It!
The new girl-focused Soroptimist program, Dream it, Be it: Career Support for Girls launched in July 2014. Clubs in Desert Coast Region are busy planning how they will implement this exciting new program that will help teen girls, not only dream of a bright future, but learn the steps they need to take to achieve all their goals and dreams.
Based on quantitative and qualitative research conducted in 2013-2014, SIA found that, in addition to education, girls need access to mentors and trusted adults who can share their knowledge and guidance. The results of the research are compiled in the research paper: "If She Can Dream It".
Mentoring is the cultivation of young adults, the tender caring for and nurturing of them so that they will grow, flourish, and be fruitful.
Dream It, Be It! Overview
Dream It, Be It targets girls in secondary school who face obstacles to their future success. It provides girls with access to professional role models, career education and resources to live their dreams. The topics covered include career opportunities, setting and achieving goals, overcoming obstacles to success and how to move forward after setbacks or failures. In 2015, Soroptimist will launch a financial component to provide girls leaving secondary school with the resources they need to pursue their goals.
Soroptimist clubs throughout SIA are now in the planning stages for this new, exciting girl-focused program. During this phase, clubs will:
- Conduct Community Assessments
- Form Girls Advisory Groups
- Choose their program model - small group mentoring or a one-day conference
